Gratitude for the Greatest Generation

Our Thanks

If you aren't a member of "the Greatest Generation" — imagine for a moment that you were.

As an American, you've only recently come out of the Great Depression. During this time period you probably went "without" much more often than not. Maybe your father had to leave home and travel long distances to find work. You might have had to find work at a very young age yourself, just to keep food on the table for younger brothers and sisters.

By the time World War II begins in 1939, life is starting to get easier.

Then, in the aftermath of the tragic events of December 7, 1941, the call for all Americans to sacrifice, to do "without," comes again. But this time is different.

This time, you're not sending your husband or sons out to find work; you're sending them halfway around the globe with a strong possibility that you may never see them again. This time you're not being asked to sacrifice the carefree days of adolescence for your family; you're being asked to put your own life on the line, in a faraway place, and for people you don't even know.

You've already given up a lot in life. Now, what do you do?

We know what they did. They did the right thing, for the right reasons and without hesitation.

Having said all of this — the Banner, Briley & White family is pleased to offer its thanks and appreciation to everyone who sacrificed during the dark days of World War II. Without them, the world would be a very different place.
